Van Morrison is one of the all-time great recording artists in contemporary music.

Now aged 76, the Northern Irish singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer whose recording career spans seven decades is still on the road plying his trade live with an awesome band of consummate musicians.

Much of Morrison’s music is rooted in soul music and R&B, as well as spiritually inspired musical journeys that show the influence of Celtic tradition, jazz and stream-of-consciousness narrative, such as the classic album Astral Weeks. He is, of course, famed for his single with first band Them, Gloria, and his solo hit Brown Eyed Girl, but his epic back catalogue boasts so much more.

One of music’s true originals, Van has been influenced by the likes of Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, Muddy Waters, Mahalia Jackson and Leadbelly, and he is a prolific songwriter who has achieved a knighthood, a Brit, an OBE, an Ivor Novello, 6 Grammys, honourary doctorates from Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Ulster, entry into The Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame and the French Ordres Des Artes Et Des Lettres. The word legend is often overused, but not in Van’s case.

The incomparable composer, singer and performer will be playing songs from his extraordinary career in Liverpool at the stunning Philharmonic Hall at the end of May. if you want to catch a genuine pioneer of the music industry, grab yourself a ticket!
