The double denim wearing, recently turned 30 year-old was overjoyed to be performing as a headliner on the second night of The Lytham Festival. He eloquently and profusely thanked the crowd for not only coming out to see him and his band play tonight but also for all the support his fans have given him since his meteoric rise to fame.

Despite the cold and drizzle – weather we are not currently used to – Lytham Festival continues to attract even bigger artists year upon year. This year, Cuffe & Taylor, in addition to George Ezra and his support act, rising star Cat Burns, have secured prolific artists such as: Sting, Blondie, Kaiser Chiefs, Motley Crew, Def Leppard and Jamiroquai.

The concert kicked off with the lively and upbeat country mix of “Tiger Lily,” setting an energetic tone for the diverse crowd. To my surprise, there was even a bouncing mosh-pit, a sight I didn’t expect to witness in the typically tranquil Lytham. George Ezra, with his wholesome and infectious smile, is someone who would charm most girls to introduce to their mothers, and someone your dad would love to rock out with, while your brothers and sisters would want to party alongside. Fortunately, I had one of my beloved brothers accompanying me as my plus one, and we truly had a blast!

During his performance, George engaged with the audience, sharing amusing anecdotes and, even more impressively, unveiling the inspirations behind many of his songs. One particularly poignant story occurred during his vacation in St Lucia, where he savored homemade rum punch and engaged in a conversation with a passerby. He discovered that the village was engulfed in a carnival-like atmosphere, brought together by the celebration of three recently departed individuals. The community honored their lives with music, food, and drink. This revelation lent a newfound depth to the lyrics of “Green, Green Grass.” George went on to express his desire for his fans to hold a similar festival to celebrate his life when the day comes for him to depart. He playfully roused the crowd by mentioning his upcoming visit to Manchester on the next leg of his tour. After the initial boos subsided, he cheekily added, “I had to start with the best, and we all know Liverpool is the best!” This endearing remark further endeared him to the crowd, who had already embraced him with open hearts from the start.

Overall, this was a feel-good concert that was enjoyed by all. Friendly police, security and staff on the gate along with the mostly full to capacity crowd of 22000 chanted and whooped, singing Ezra’s lyrics back to him word perfect making this a wonderful concert to experience.
