Submission Call: Apocalypse Poetry – Last Light

Exploring the End: A Unique Poetic Journey

In an era where the end seems ever-nearer, The Broken Spine invites poets to explore themes of apocalypse, revelation, and survival. Our second slimline themed poetry collection, Last Light: Apocalypse Poetry, aims to capture the essence of these times not as cataclysmic endings but as profound unveilings. We seek submissions that explore the apocalypse as a moment of revelation, echoing the intensity found in poetry’s ability to articulate the anxieties and enlightenments of the end.

Apocalypse Poetry: Unveiling Truths Through Narrative and Verse

In the shadow of the apocalypse, The Broken Spine seeks poetry submissions that dare to peel back the layers of our reality, revealing the core truths that lie beneath. We invite poets to explore the themes of end times through the lenses of free verse, blank verse, narrative poetry, and prose poetry. Your submissions should act as a bridge between the grandeur of the apocalyptic and the intimacy of human experience, finding the universal in personal moments and the personal in universal fears.

We encourage you to stand on the brink of change; your poetry should strive to capture both the quiet moments before transformation and the tumultuous beauty that follows. We are drawn to works that explore the act of unveiling—poems that challenge, provoke, and inspire, guiding readers to find meaning and connection amidst the backdrop of the unknown. Whether drawing from the vastness of nature’s power or the simplicity of life around a kitchen table, we seek pieces that articulate the intertwined experiences of individual lives and collective humanity as they navigate the anticipation of the end.

Guidelines for Poetic Revelation: Innovating Through Language and Form

Your poetry should offer revelations that prompt reflection and connection, much like Adam Zagajewski’s poignant observations amidst destruction. We encourage innovative language and form to articulate the hidden truths beneath our everyday lives, challenging readers to see the beauty in transformation and the serene amidst the catastrophic.

How to Submit Your Apocalypse Poetry

  • Submission Fee: A nominal fee of £3 supports our operational expenses, ensuring our commitment to nurturing poetic talent. Pay here.
  • Submission Process: Compile your poems into a single Word document and submit via our Google Form.
  • Compensation and Rights: Poets grant permission of their rights to the magazine for the first print, after which they return to the author. Unfortunately, we cannot remunerate authors with a fee or a copy of this edition, although we will gladly make it available at a reduced rate to authors should they wish to purchase a copy.
  • Format and Style: Submit up to two poems in Times New Roman, 12-point font, single-spaced, favouring free verse or blank verse. Overly complicated form will be rejected. There is no line limit; we enjoy both sprawling poems that cross pages and pithy pieces.
