Known affectionately as “The Realies” by their fans, the band will be bringing their classic indie sound to O2 Academy venues in Birmingham, London, and their hometown of Liverpool.

Formed in 1987, The Real People played a crucial role in the resurgence of rock & roll, alongside other influential bands like The La’s and The Stone Roses. Signing with Columbia Records in 1989, their self-titled debut album featured hits like “Open Up Your Mind,” “Window Pane,” and “The Truth,” earning critical acclaim and selling over 100,000 copies.
Despite the challenges of label changes and industry shifts, The Real People have continued to make their mark. Their 1996 album ‘What’s on the Outside’ included indie chart hits such as “Going Nowhere” and “Every Vision of You,” showcasing their evolving songwriting talents. The band’s lineup now includes Chris and Tony Griffiths, along with Russ Mitchinson on keyboards, Tony Mac on drums, Martin Lappin on guitar, and Tony McGuigan on drums.
The Real People’s influence on the Britpop movement is undeniable, with Oasis famously borrowing heavily from their sound. Over the years, they’ve supported major acts like Ocean Colour Scene, David Bowie, and Nelly Furtado, while also achieving success as songwriters for other artists, including Cher’s hit cover of “One by One.”
The band’s own studio, Realistic Music, continues to thrive, and their long-awaited fourth album ‘Think Positive’ has received critical acclaim. With this current lineup being hailed as the best yet, The Realies are set to deliver unforgettable performances this autumn.
