I’m thrilled to report back on the success of our recent Between These Walls: Writing the Everyday workshop! We had an amazing mix of poets joining us from around the world, which brought a truly diverse range of voices and perspectives to the table. One particularly dedicated participant even joined us early from a poetry retreat just to get an extra dose of inspiration—now that’s commitment!

The feedback we received was incredibly warm, and the work produced during the session was fantastic. The poems were vibrant, varied, and full of life, which really highlighted the power of focusing on free verse for domestic poetry.

After reflecting on the first run, I made some key changes that I believe will really pay off. I have shifted our attention away from strict poetic forms and put a stronger emphasis on free verse, the section which everyone seemed to appreciate most. I’ll dig in to how free verse allows for more flexibility and creativity, making it easier for you participants to tap into the everyday experiences we will explore. The academic research perspectives that started the session off gave the workshop a solid foundation and added real depth to our discussions. So they stay!

Thanks to the success of this first session, we’re running the workshop again on Saturday, September 28th, from 14:00 to 17:00 BST. It’s a great chance for those who couldn’t make it the first time to jump in, or for returning participants to continue developing their work in this supportive environment.

Looking forward to seeing more of you there!
