As we prepare to launch The Whiskey Tree: Untamed Identity (Wave 1), we’re seeking fresh voices to shape the ongoing conversation around identity and representation in today’s world. This isn’t just a submission—it’s an opportunity to add your voice to one of the most critical discussions of our time, and to become part of a creative community that values and uplifts diverse perspectives.
We’re particularly keen to hear from writers, poets, editors, critics, and commentators of colour, those from diverse gender identities, sexual orientations, socio-economic backgrounds, and underrepresented communities. Your experiences, insights, and stories are essential to expanding this dialogue beyond its traditional boundaries.
What We’re Looking For:
- Short pieces, up to 500 words, that explore identity and representation through album, film, book, theatre, or poetry reviews, or offer insightful cultural commentary.
- Personal essays and opinion pieces that engage with themes of race, gender, class, and more, particularly through the lens of contemporary poetry and popular culture.
Why Contribute?
- By contributing, you’ll know you’re part of an important conversation, helping to amplify underrepresented voices in a world where identity is central to every cultural discussion.
- Your work will be featured across our website and social platforms, where it will reach an engaged and growing audience.
- You’ll receive a copy of the #UntamedIdentity Wave1 anthology as a thank-you for your contribution.
- Most importantly, you’ll join the #BrokenSpineFamily, where we treat every contributor with respect and value their creative contributions. As editor, I personally ensure that your voice will be heard and that you will be part of a supportive and inclusive community.
This is your chance to help lift the work of the writers featured in Wave1 and ensure it reaches the widest readership possible. We’re committed to making space for the most meaningful, diverse voices—help us make that happen.
Let’s keep the conversation going. Share your stories, reviews, and critiques, and be part of something that resonates long after the anthology’s release.
