Emotive, Hugely entertaining with a stellar cast!

Adventure before dementia was definitely the mantra of the play and strong message that was persistently reinforced to the sold out performance at Liverpool’s iconic, Playhouse Theatre last night.

A major commendation must be heaped upon set designers and stage hands for the elaborate, impressive and highly realistic stage setting of the Indian hotel. This is the first thing you see upon entering the auditorium;  gasps of ‘wow!’ with sharp intakes of breath could be heard whilst others walked to the front of the stage to get a better look.  The design was intricate, full of nic-nacs and entirely believable transporting the audience into sunnier climes.

The stellar cast delivered a magnificent performance of Deborah Moggach’s bestseller, which later inspired one of this century’s most treasured films. Each actor portrayed their fictional character – all of whom are in the autumn of their lives – with humour, wit, skill and an abundance of emotions which resonated with the mostly senior audience; tugging on their strings.  This fantastic play starred: Belinda Lang, Paul Nicholas,Tessa Peake-Jones, Graham Seed, Rekha John-Cheriyan, Nishad More,Shilla Iqbal, Tiran Aakel, Paolo Dionisotti, Julie Wood and Anant Varman.

This wonderful story, which appeals to all adult age groups, takes us on a journey to India with an eclectic group of British retirees as they embark on a new life. The luxury residence is far from the opulence they were promised, but as their lives begin to intertwine, they are charmed in unexpected and life-changing ways.

If you are looking for a highly entertaining show with a strong and emotional narrative plus, a stellar cast come and see this joyous comedy about taking risks, finding love and embracing second chances, even in the most surprising of places.  However, if you are recently bereaved of your life partner then please avoid this show as this topic is constantly covered and you may find it too traumatic to fully enjoy…this time around!
