We are thrilled to announce that Ben Ottewell, the gravel-voiced frontman of the seminal genre-hopping group Gomez, will be performing at the Liverpool Philharmonic on the 19th of September, 2024. This event is particularly close to our hearts at The Broken Spine, as Ottewell attended the same sixth form as our founders, Alan Parry and Paul. Remarkably, Gomez’s debut album Bring It On was a Mercury Prize nominee just a year before Alan and Paul embarked on their own creative journeys at the same institution.
For over two decades, we have followed the extraordinary careers of Ben Ottewell and Gomez. Founded in Southport in 1995, Gomez quickly rose to prominence with their eclectic sound and innovative approach to music. Their debut album Bring It On won the prestigious Mercury Prize in 1998, cementing their place in music history.
Ben Ottewell’s return to the Music Room is highly anticipated, especially after his triumphant performance in May 2023. During that memorable evening, Ottewell played Bring It On in its entirety as a solo act for the first time, leaving the audience in awe of his powerful voice and emotive delivery.
This upcoming performance promises to be just as captivating, with Ottewell playing tracks from Bring It On, other beloved Gomez classics, and selections from his acclaimed three solo albums. Fans can expect an intimate evening filled with the rich, gravelly tones that have defined Ottewell’s career and the timeless songs that have resonated with audiences for years.
Join us at the Liverpool Philharmonic on the 19th of September for a night of unforgettable music, as we celebrate the enduring legacy of Ben Ottewell and Gomez. This is an event not to be missed, whether you’re a long-time fan or discovering their music for the first time. We look forward to sharing this special experience with you.
