Making It at Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre: A Hilarious Backstage Comedy with Heart, Grit, and Glam

From 1st to 17th May 2025, the Royal Court Theatre Liverpool welcomes Making It—a laugh-out-loud, bittersweet comedy about ambition, resilience, and the bumpy road to stardom, packed with Merseyside charm.

After forty years of near-misses, cabaret gigs, and showbiz scraps, Bev is back where it all began—or maybe where it all unraveled—the Kirkby Boilermakers and Shipbuilders Social Club. It’s the kind of venue you only play twice: once on the way up, and once on the way down. For Bev, this is her swan song—or so she hopes. All she needs is one phone call to change her life… again.

As she slaps on her stage face and prepares for the spotlight, Bev takes us on a wildly funny journey through her almost-famous past. From dodgy managers to mafia-run theatres in Llandudno, from kinda-sorta film debuts to brushes with musical greatness, she’s lived it all—and she’s ready to spill every last sparkling, sordid detail.

Written by local talents Cath Rice and Stephen Fletcher—with extra flair from the legendary Andrew Schofield—Making It has grown from an award-winning one-woman show into a full-bodied, two-hander comedy that pulses with Liverpool spirit. Directed by Fletcher and starring Rice and Schofield, this Royal Court production promises a night of big laughs, sharp storytelling, and heartfelt moments that hit home.

Tickets are available now from the Royal Court Theatre Liverpool box office or online. Don’t miss this homegrown hit with a backstage pass to a life spent chasing the dream—and refusing to let go of it.

Whether you’ve known a Bev, been a Bev, or are still making it, this is a night of theatre that’s pure Scouse gold.
