Takeaway at Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre: A Serving of Family, Food, and Firecracker Drama

Running from 16th April to 17th May 2025, Takeaway is the latest home-grown hit to light up Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre—a rich, flavoursome feast of comedy, chaos and community, written and directed by local talent Nathan Powell.

Set in the heart of Liverpool 8, Takeaway tells the story of Hyltons Caribbean, a beloved neighbourhood restaurant built with heart and hustle by matriarch Carol and her late husband. Now, as gentrification looms, the family must navigate new pressures—from flashy food trends and delivery culture to rising tensions over the soul of their city.

With luxury apartments threatening to flatten a treasured community centre, Takeaway blends belly laughs with biting truths, dishing out a generous helping of humour, heartbreak, and hometown pride. It’s a play about family legacy, shifting values, and what we risk losing when our communities are reshaped without consent.

Bursting with relatable characters, sharp dialogue, and the mouth-watering scent of soul food and simmering drama, Takeaway is a must-see for fans of bold, contemporary theatre rooted in real life.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased in person at the Everyman or Playhouse Theatre box offices, by calling 0151 709 4776, or by emailing boxoffice@everymanplayhouse.com.

Come hungry for laughs. Leave full of feeling. Takeaway is Liverpool storytelling at its tastiest.
