Scouse Sorcery and Celebrity Spoofing: The Legend of Rooney’s Ring Reviewed

Five Star comedy gold!  Highly entertaining from start to finish!

The Royal Court has excelled with this original comedy by Helen Serafinowicz. It was hilarious, well written, funny without being insulting and ultimately a modern twist on a love story revolving around two high profile citizens of Liverpool, football legend and his wife Wane and Colleen Rooney.

The Royal Court whilst championing upcoming writers, directors and production teams can sometimes miss the mark.  Sadly, in a few cases that is down to casting and their persistent use of local actors who have limited talent. This had the potential to go the same way, given the cast is predominately the same who appear in the Christmas pantomime.  Thankfully, Lindzi Germain’s gruff scouse drawl, screeching and swearing of profanities that become tedious had been tightly reigned in to allow for a highly enjoyable evening’s entertainment.  The signing and dancing was superb and carried the narrative well.  The ultimate star of the show was the actor playing a deranged Donald Trump.

This tale of scouse sword and sorcery tale was packed with magic, romance, original songs and stupid gags. Based on a half-true rumour, this story of myth and missus will have you laughing your axe off all night long.
