Modfather Reigns Supreme: Paul Weller Delivers a Waterfront Masterclass in Liverpool

The uber-cool Modfather was back entertaining his Liverpool fans. A pure masterclass in music!

Last night couldn’t have been more perfect. A hot, balmy evening saw the Modfather open the four-day On the Waterfront Festival. The backdrop to this outdoor event was spectacular. On one side, the beautiful sunset gloriously shone its yellow and orange hues, while on the other stood the magnificent Three Graces, lit up and changing colours throughout the concert.

Liverpool is undoubtedly the music capital of the world, and I feel so proud and privileged to be from here, taking any and every opportunity to promote and highlight our wonderful city in all its breathtaking glory!

Paul Weller strutted onto the stage to the loudest cheer known to man. His uber-cool and sultry style simply oozed throughout his full 31-song set. He took us back through the decades with hit after hit from his Jam and Style Council days, alongside more recent tracks. No one was left disappointed. In fact, all around you could see people of all ages having a brilliant night, singing, dancing and enjoying every minute.

Weller treated us to a brilliant run of hits, with some of my particular favourites including You Do Something to Me, Stanley Road and Broken Stones, which I still think should be called Pebbles on the Beach, I’m sure he gets that a lot! We also got brilliant versions of Shout to the Top and Long Hot Summer. However, Changingman, The Eton Rifles and A Town Called Malice, which wasn’t on the printed setlist, took the concert into the stratosphere.

Support acts Arkala, followed by Miles Kane, whipped the crowd into a frenzy and clearly had their own fan bases present, as both received loud cheers throughout their respective sets.

With a myriad of food trucks, plenty of bars and adequate toilet facilities, especially for women, which is often lacking at outdoor events, On the Waterfront is a venue not to be missed.
