The European Poetry Festival is the UK’s largest celebration of continental poetry, with a rich history of featuring over 1,000 European poets in collaborative performances. The festival highlights the resurgence of avant-garde and literary poetry in the 21st century, aiming to redefine live poetry while fostering community and engagement among poets and audiences.
Central to the festival are the Camarade events, where poets create fresh works for each performance, transforming the events into dynamic spaces for experimentation and friendship. This year’s festival, running from 19th June to 6th July 2024, builds on previous successes, including 15 events across the UK in 2023 that drew over 1,000 attendees.
Supported by Arts Council England, the National Centre for Writing, and various international agencies, the festival has also curated events across Europe in cities such as Kosice, Bergen, Vienna, and Ljubljana, making it a cornerstone of the UK’s live poetry culture.
