Aslan, the Irish rock legends, have announced a series of UK tour dates this autumn, much to the delight of their fans. After 40 years of electrifying performances with their iconic frontman Christy Dignam, the remaining members – Joe Jewell, Alan Downey, and Billy McGuinness – are determined to keep the spirit of Aslan alive. Despite the profound loss of Christy, the band continues to bring their legendary music to the stage, ensuring that their legacy endures.
This tour is a heartfelt tribute to Christy Dignam, who passed away on 13 June 2023 at the age of 63. The band has welcomed Lee Tomkins as their new vocalist, a move that has been met with great support and enthusiasm. Tomkins, with his powerful voice and deep respect for Aslan’s music, will be leading the charge as they perform their greatest hits.
The Liverpool show, scheduled for the 18th of October at the O2 Academy, promises to be a night of nostalgia and rock anthems. Fans can expect to hear classics from their extensive back catalogue, including hits like This Is, Where’s The Sun, Crazy World, and Here Comes The Sun. Each performance will be a celebration of Aslan’s remarkable career and the indelible mark they have left on the rock scene.
Aslan formed in 1982 and quickly rose to fame with their debut album Feel No Shame. Over the years, they have released six studio albums, with Nudie Books and Frenchies being their most recent in 2012. Their impact on the Irish music scene is undeniable, boasting nine top ten albums and sixteen top twenty singles in Ireland.
The Liverpool show is set to be a poignant and powerful evening, as the band pays homage to Christy Dignam while embracing their future with Lee Tomkins. This is a rare opportunity to witness the resilience and enduring talent of Aslan as they continue to roar through their legendary repertoire.
