Legendary singer-songwriter Elkie Brooks to embark on the Long Farewell Tour and headline the Shrewsbury Folk Festival.

Elkie Brooks, acclaimed as the ‘British Queen of Blues,’ has announced her Long Farewell Tour, marking the end of a remarkable 64-year career in music. This tour is a tribute to her enduring influence and exceptional songwriting that has captivated audiences for decades.

Starting her career in 1960, Elkie Brooks has become a significant figure in the music industry. Her farewell tour promises to be a fitting celebration, featuring timeless hits and new songs from her upcoming twenty-first studio album. Fans can look forward to live performances of classics such as Pearl’s A SingerLilac Wine, Fool (If You Think It’s Over), and Don’t Cry Out Loud.

Brooks’ tour will span the UK, giving fans a final opportunity to experience her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence. In addition to her tour, she will headline the Shrewsbury Folk Festival on 26th August, offering a unique blend of blues, rock, and jazz.

A Legacy of Songwriting Excellence

Elkie Brooks’ career began in 1960, quickly rising to prominence with her unique voice and compelling songwriting. Her first hit, Something’s Got A Hold On Me, featured a pre-Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page. Throughout the 1960s, she supported major acts like The Beatles and The Small Faces, before co-fronting Vinegar Joe with Robert Palmer.

Her solo career took off with the release of the album Two Days Away, featuring the hit Pearl’s A Singer, co-written by Leiber & Stoller. This song, along with other hits like No More The Fool and Lilac Wine, cemented her place in music history. The 1981 album Pearls spent 79 weeks in the charts, making Brooks the biggest-selling female album artist in British pop at the time.

Elkie Brooks has released over 20 albums and performed at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Arena. Her dedication to songwriting and live performance has left an indelible mark on the music industry.
