A Stellar Line-Up for Live Music in Liverpool’s Premier Concert Hall
The Tung Auditorium, housed in the University of Liverpool’s Yoko Ono Lennon Centre, is set to dazzle audiences once again with an outstanding Autumn and Winter 2024 programme. From October through to December, this season promises a rich variety of genres and performances that celebrate both international talent and homegrown artists.
October Highlights
The season begins with Visions of Albion on 9th October at 1pm, offering a free performance that will captivate lunchtime audiences. Later that evening, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra teams up with sitar virtuoso Jasdeep Singh Degun for a thrilling fusion of classical and Indian music, starting at 7:30pm.
On 10th October, Irish folk music takes centre stage with Iarla Ó Lionáird joined by Cormac McCarthy and Matthew Berrill for an intimate, soul-stirring performance at 8pm. The following night, 11th October, fans of cinematic music will be treated to The Music of the Lord of the Rings, a tribute to Howard Shore with a full orchestra recreating the epic soundscape of Tolkien’s world.
Classical music continues on 13th October as La Serenissima delivers a stunning concert exploring Music from the Italian States.
Broad Horizons and Experimental Sounds
On 16th October, Neil Campbell presents a free lunchtime concert, followed by the exuberant Down for the Count All-Stars on 19th October, bringing audiences “A Century of Swing” in a spectacular evening of jazz and big band classics.
October also offers bold explorations into contemporary music with Tomorrow’s New Quartet on 23rd October, and the dynamic Rajhesh Vaidhya on 26th October, performing with Sai Giridhar and Kousic Sen in a one-of-a-kind evening of Indian classical music with a modern twist.
The month concludes with the world-class Chilingirian Quartet on 27th October, performing an exquisite selection of classical pieces, promising a sublime afternoon for chamber music enthusiasts.
November: A Month of Musical Fusion and Innovation
November continues the variety with free performances like Dorothy Bird on 6th November, and the Flute and Piano music from Latin America on 13th November, celebrating the rhythmic diversity of the Americas. Cara Dillon, one of Ireland’s most acclaimed folk singers, brings her show Coming Home to the venue on 1st November, promising a night filled with ethereal vocals and deep storytelling.
Fans of cinematic soundtracks will not want to miss the INTERSTELLAR tribute to Hans Zimmer on 15th November, while Abel Selaocoe and the Manchester Collective return on 16th November for Sirocco, blending African and European musical traditions in a performance that will surely be a season highlight.
Festive Cheer in December
As December arrives, The Tung Auditorium gears up for the festive season. With shows such as Allerton Brass: Jingle All the Way on 6th December, and the much-anticipated Robert Vincent on 7th December, the month promises to end on a high note. For jazz lovers, Dr Jazz and the Cheshire Cats will deliver their popular Happy Jazzmas concert on 8th December.
Classical music lovers can revel in Musical Postcards: Kathryn Stott’s Final Recital on 11th December, followed by the University of Liverpool Choir’s Northern Lights performance earlier that day.
The season wraps up with the Liverpool Welsh Choral on 14th December and Christmas with the Danny Miller Big Band on 15th December, closing the programme with a joyous celebration of music.
