Writing is never just a solo act. Even when it’s just me and the page, I know the real work happens in community. The Broken Spine has always been about creating space for that. With #PoemsAbout, you write to a shared theme. With #LiftToTheSky, you lift your peers, your presses, and your inspirations. Now, I’m inviting you to go one step further.
Starting Wednesday 20 August 2025, I’m launching #WednesdayWIPs, a new weekly ritual on Bluesky where writers share what they’re working on, no matter what stage they’re at.
This is for poetry writers, prose writers, hybrid creators, journallers, lyricists, script scribblers and late-night notebook-fillers. Whether you’re stuck in a paragraph or finally finishing a scene, this space is for you.
What to post for #WednesdayWIPs
Post anything from your work-in-progress:
- A few lines of a poem or short story
- A messy draft that’s annoying you
- A short reel talking through your process
- A photo of your notebook or desktop
- A question about a scene, structure, or sentence
- A link to a writing group, prompt, or opportunity that’s fuelling your week
Tag your skeet with #WednesdayWIPs on Bluesky and you’re in.
This isn’t about polish. It’s about presence. Showing up for your writing, and showing up for each other.
How to Pin the Feed on Bluesky?
- Open Bluesky and go to Explore.
- In the search bar, type in the hashtag you want to follow (e.g.

). - Click on the Feeds tab
- When the feed appears, select Pin Feed (not “Add”).
- The feed will now stay pinned in your main navigation for easy access.
Why this matters for creative writers
Creative writing is too often seen as solitary, but every writer knows it’s community that keeps us going. Whether you’re writing poetry, short stories, memoir, or working on a novel, sharing your WIP is a powerful way to stay connected and stay accountable.
And yes, it will probably start slow. Week one might be quiet. That’s normal. I’ll be scheduling posts in the run-up, reminding people it’s coming, and it’ll get regular mentions in The Broken Spine newsletter. Over time, I believe it’ll settle into your routine just like #PoemsAbout did. No pressure. No performance. Just one more way to stay engaged with your practice and your peers.
Shareable Graphics? Absolutely.
Here are some visual assets and graphics you can use to flag your #WednesdayWIPs posts so readers know what to expect.
You’ll also be able to use these graphics on your posts to help build brand recognition for #WednesdayWIPs, making the thread easier to follow and more inviting for new writers to join.

Share your tools, groups, and prompts
Got a favourite Discord for flash fiction? A zine accepting submissions? A prompt that kicked your brain into gear? Post it. This isn’t gatekeeping. It’s not competition. This is a community of writers helping each other write more. Share what’s helping you, and it might help someone else too.
This is how we break the silence between writing sessions. This is how we say, you’re not alone in this. Not just with the finished piece, but with the messy, middle-of-the-night part too.
We are not islands. We are a writing community.
Whether you’re just starting your writing journey or you’re already deep in the literary world, #WednesdayWIPs gives you a moment each week to connect with writers on Bluesky who are doing the same. Writers of poetry, prose, essays, scripts, songs, all are welcome.
We build community not through competition, but through consistency. Through showing up. Through vulnerability. Through sharing what’s unfinished and trusting that someone else will recognise it.
So I’ll be there every Wednesday. Sharing my WIP. Tagging my post. Seeing what others are creating.
