Happy Mondays in Liverpool: A Madchester Mass for the Faithful (and the Freaky)

It’s been decades since I first saw Happy Mondays—Wembley Stadium, summer of 2000, supporting Oasis on the Standing on the Shoulder of Giants tour. The Mondays weren’t the main event, not that day, but they stole it. Ryder’s sneer, Bez’s mad-lad chaos—it felt like watching a band half in this world, half in some glittery, pill-smeared dimension of their own making. I was still a kid then. But the imprint stuck.

Now, The Broken Spine is older, louder, maybe even wiser (jury’s out), and here we are: full circle. The Mondays are back, rolling into Liverpool’s Mountford Hall on 21st March 2026—and this isn’t just another legacy act trotting out the hits. This is a celebration of Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches, the acid-laced gospel of the Madchester generation. Thirty-five years on and it still fizzes like a brown tab on a sweaty dancefloor.

Liverpool’s getting the full-fat lineup: Ryder, Bez, the original core crew—and they’re bringing The Farm and Northside with them, just like Elland Road ’91. You can already smell the Red Stripe and Vicks in the air.

This isn’t a nostalgia act. It’s a resurrection.

The Mondays shaped a culture. The Broken Spine was shaped by it. From club nights to basement gigs, from zines to this screen, we’ve carried the torch for music that meant something beyond the charts. Music that got in your bones. Music that danced even when the country felt like it was falling apart.

And that’s exactly what this night promises. March 21st. Mountford Hall. One night of groove, grime, freaky dancing and salvation by way of Kinky Afro and Step On. You won’t just hear the beat—you’ll feel it in your jaw.

This is your invitation. Don’t miss it.
