Under the Mersey Moon Review – A Promising Story Let Down by Painfully Weak Performances at Floral Pavilion ★★☆☆☆

Starring Billy Butler, Lesley Butler, Sam Heller, Sam Alton, Christopher Lee Power, Adam Johnson, Catherine Howard, Leslie Longley, Sarah-Lou Fletcher, Jodie White, Jimmy Rae and Al Peters.

The writers Jimmy Raw and Pete Davies created a good story that had the potential to become amazing however the acting severely let the production down.

Instead of casting a local celebrity and aging DJ, Billy Butler as the ‘draw’ for the production, why not cast an actor who has genuine acting ability and is not going to miss and ‘fluff’  lines?  This was clearly a strategic decision to sell tickets however it left many of the audience, myself included, completely dissatisfied.  Unfortunately, Billy’s wife Lesley Butler was also cast and delivered such a wooden performance that would be insulting to a GCSE drama class. Her acting was a complete shambles rendering the character completely unbelievable.  Lesley Butler is billed as an actor however this performance demonstrated no acting ability whatsoever and her performance whilst playing drink was utterly cringeworthy.  These amateur performances in this professional production heavily detracted from the excellent voice and acting ability of Sam Heller who played the protagonist Danny.

The music was exceptional as were the musicians who performed; however the show was completely spoiled by headline names.
