Carrie-Anne Ingrouille directs a bold new revival of the cult classic musical at the Playhouse, 3 Dec 2026 – 9 Jan 2027
Forget tinsel and snowflakes — Christmas 2026, the Liverpool Playhouse is getting a taste for blood.
A fresh revival of Little Shop of Horrors is set to burst through the cracks of traditional festive fare, running from 3 December 2026 to 9 January 2027. Expect killer tunes, man-eating flora, and enough twisted comedy to leave your nan speechless.
Helming the production is Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, the Olivier- and Tony-nominated director-choreographer behind the global smash Six. Now she turns her razor-sharp eye to the darkly hilarious world of Skid Row, reimagining the cult classic with swagger, heart, and an edge that bites.
A Monster of a Musical
For the uninitiated: Little Shop of Horrors is the story of Seymour, a down-on-his-luck florist who finds fame, fortune, and moral compromise in the form of a very hungry houseplant. It’s part sci-fi B-movie, part Motown musical, and all kinds of wrong in the best way possible.
With music by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin) and lyrics by Howard Ashman, the show has become a counter-cultural staple — beloved by generations of misfits, musical nerds, and horror heads alike.
Creative Carnivores Assemble
This production boasts a fierce creative line-up:
- Morgan Large (Newsies, Sister Act) – Set & Costume Design
- Paul Schofield (Hair, BatBoy) – Musical Supervisor & Arranger
- Rory Beaton (Burlesque The Musical, For Black Boys…) – Lighting Design
- Rob Kelly (Hadestown, Geek Girl) – Casting Director
More casting news drops in 2026, but even this sneak peek promises a production packed with flair, mood, and a touch of mayhem.
From Cult to Christmas Tradition?
Nathan Powell, Creative Director at Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, said:
“Little Shop of Horrors is gloriously odd and packed with cracking tunes — the perfect antidote to the usual Christmas schmaltz. After The Rocky Horror Show and Young Frankenstein, it’s another curveball that’ll make this city’s festive season feel deliciously unhinged.”
This is the latest brainchild of the ongoing collaboration between Hope Mill Theatre and Thomas Hopkins Productions — the team behind some of the UK’s most striking musical revivals in recent years.
Producer Thomas Hopkins added:
“To bring this monster back for its first major UK outing since 2007 is a thrill. With Carrie-Anne at the helm and this powerhouse team on board, we’re building a show that respects the original while sinking deeper into its dark heart.”
