Description
This bundle contains print copies of three chapbooks from The Broken Spine:
- The Keeper of Aeons by Matthew M. C. Smith, a writer from Swansea and editor of Black Bough Poetry. The poems travel through vast expanses of time, from early human history and ancient Welsh burial sites to the International Space Station.
- The Mask by Elisabeth Horan, a dual-language collection of ekphrastic poems written in response to the life and art of Frida Kahlo.
- From This Soil by Casey Bailey, Birmingham Poet Laureate 2020 to 2022 and the fifth chapbook published by The Broken Spine.
Advance praise for the three collections:
‘Dreamlike and unsettling, this collection will take you on a whirlwind voyage to sacred and ancient sites, through mists of myth and into possible futures. Matthew M C Smith evokes haunting and cinematic experiences through his rich use of language and history.’
– Jane Lovell, author of The God of Lost Ways
‘The rhythmical sense of abandon achieved within these ekphrastic responses, entwined with Frida’s native Spanish, feed a lingering connection between the artist’s and poet’s tenacious spirits.’
– Marcelle Newbold, Managing Editor Rare Swan Press, Editor Nightingale & Sparrow
‘A poet of deep tenderness and social engagement, it’s easy to see why Casey Bailey has become so beloved to Birmingham. Here he gifts us poems of family and friends, love and loss, keeping close and letting go, all made so vivid and moving by his empathy and open-heartedness.’
– Liz Berry, author of Black Country
